Not sure which machine you have so your files may not be in these
exact locations. Apache will fail to restart because of errors in
etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf (or one of its other .conf files). A
typical error would be a virtual server pointing to a doc root
that doesn't exist, or a syntax error in the file. Check
/var/log/messages, the reason Apache isn't starting should be in
there, and it will be a starting point for investigating.
Be very careful editing any of those conf files, you can void
your warranty. If you have never played with this file before,
you may find that something has been deleted that shouldn't have
been (like a vsite doc root directory). Putting the missing
directory back in place would cure the problem without resorting
to re-editing the conf.
