What the h...? I rebooted one of my RaQ4's today and I'm getting some
strange runaway process. ( .bd command). Normally, this RaQ4 has about
70-75 total processes. Today, it's been running over 300 processes. I
killed them all off including the zombie and they came back one after one
after one.... over the course of about 2 hours, I had over 300 processes
again. I tried rebooting the server (/sbin/reboot) but this didn't seem to
help. In fact, it seems like rebooting somehow begins this strange series
of processes. Once today, the CPU went crazy and the system and users were
using 99.9% for a sustained period until I rebooted. Also note the pstree
command below which shows 255 processes of this .bd. I don't notice any
other indications of anything abnormal. I have had trouble with my logs in
/var/log recently which caused some downtime after they somehow got
deleted, probably after a fluke log rotation problem. After I reinstalled
the logs, this problem began the next day.
Has anyone ever seen such a thing on your RaQ? Does anyone know what the
process .bd is? I've checked the archives, the linux sites, the apache
sites and I can't find any mention of it.
