What could be eating that up?

All the sudden all POP3 user on one of my RAQ3's are getting the following
error

-ERR Error updating primary drop. Mail left in temporary maildrop (28)

This happens in telnet session also to port 110 upon entering the QUIT
command
also this prevents message from being deleted.

I can use PINE and delete messages from mailbox BUT if I go back in thru
telnet
and issue the quit command I get the same error.

Also deleting the user and re-creating does not fix the problem either. Nor
does a reboot
