Excuse my top post. But I belong to 20 or so other list-servs, and this is> the only one where top posting is not done.
Doug, it IS done on this list but what Gerald's saying is that it shouldn't be and, as far as I know, top posting is really not acceptable etiquette anyplace. The reason is that, once the "thread" goes past a couple of responses, it becomes almost impossible to follow when people top post -- it's like "who is responding to who here???". Becomes even more difficult when you read a very active list like this one in digest, which many of us do (myself included).
I get a lot out of the list and I try to give a bit back when people need some help and I can help them. We all do this. But if you have to go through a top posted string of messages, it becomes that much more difficult to help people.
