That's not the point I was trying to make. The point I was trying to make
was that when I asked where to find it I got a *smart ass* remark stating
that I should do more work myself before posting that question to the list,
and when Jeff asked exactly the same question in response to exactly the
same post he just simply got the link with out the unnecessary comments.
This was even after (by at least 6 hours) you posted the reply to my
question, so the answer was already on the list. If it had been me that
asked the same question right after the answer had been posted to the list I
would have been crucified for even asking the question again and not reading
the list or checking the archives for the answer that had already been
given. It was kind of a stretch on your part to assume that I had not done
any research on the subject at all to that point.
Sure, I don't give as much help to the list as Jeff does, I am relatively
new to Cobalt servers and I don't want to give answers to problems that I
might not know the best or most correct solution to. As I get more
experience with Cobalt machines I will answer more questions than I ask.
But, because I don't have all the answers, and I don't post as many answers
to the list, does not mean that I deserve any less respect than any other
member of this list. I think that is the issue at hand, just because some
of us are new to Cobalt machines does not mean we are new to the industry,
or new to mailing lists, and it does not mean that we are in some way
inferior to those that are more experienced and therefore deserve a lower
level of respect and consideration.
I am not trying to hammer you here, or attack you in any way personally.
Note that when I posted my "funny..." response, I completely left out who I
was quoting because it was not intended to "hammer" anybody, it was just
intended to get you to think about how you had responded and maybe to
realize that it was not necessarily appropriate to belittle somebody that
you have absolutely no information about, especially when they are simply
asking for a link to something that you posted you know of. I did not say I
was looking for any particular OS version, I simply asked you to post the
link to the source you were aware of because the link was not in your
previous message. Anytime you post a message saying that you are aware of
something on the net and you don't post the link to it at the same time you
have to expect that at least somebody is going to ask you for the link.
Yes, I knew there was not a Linux version on Microsoft's site as I had
looked there before. When I asked for the link where you had stated you
could get a UNIX version I was simply hoping that maybe somebody had found
somewhere (maybe not so public as Microsoft's site) a source that might
contain a Linux version or a hacked version that would run on Linux.
I'll step down off the soapbox now, but somehow I just felt that I could not
let this prejudice issue go away without at least a comment.
