Hello,
Apologies for the OT message, though it does seem to be on topic these days
with Zeffies rants. I swore to put him in my kill list, but sadly I haven't.
I don't know where he gets off saying that I don't contribute to this list.
I have several of my help guides actually in the Cobalt Knowledge base that
I've contributed.
I have been on this list practically from its inception during the days of
the RaQ1.
I've helped fixed major bugs in the Cobalt software:
Remember the CHMOD problem with the ProFTP upgrade? I fixed it within hours
of it coming out and posted to the list - Cobalt used it in their patch that
came out a week later.
Remember problems with IE gicing DNS/IO/Timeout erros? I spent many man days
hunting down the issue and posted a resolution to the list?
Remember untold Perl CGI problems? I've posted many perl script to the list
and helped many offlist get their CGI's working in the Cobalt Environment.
Remember the issue with people selling combined stats programs and I posted
our stats gathering program (statsnow) to the list for free? And indeed,
installed it for many Cobalt users on this list?
Remember the issues with logrotation wiping out stats too frequently? I
helped many users offlist setup their logrotate.d directory so it worked for
them?
Sure, I don't tend to help with day to day stuff. I'm too busy. I have a
business to run. All the answers to all the questions are in the archives,
on software specific web sites and in Linux books. If some of the people who
turn here first could simply put their head in gear first and do a little
work for themselves, they'd learn a lot more than by simply getting the
answers hand fed to them - this is how you learn Linux. Indeed this is how
you learn - it's not what you know, it's knowing where to find the answer.
I digress.
I'm sick and tired of Zeffie the SELF PROCLAIMED moderator of this list.
It's NOT your place to mould this community. It's not your place to police
it. It's EVERYONE's place. If there are aspects you don't like, tough shit,
grow up and learn that life is like that.
It's sad when idiots like that force people like me who bug hunt and
solution FIX for people, drive me to consider leaving the list. Sure, he
humps the legs of those that tell people of their offerings who he likes,
but shit man, I ONLY EVER post about our products if someone ASKS. Fine, he
doesn't like our products, I don't care, don't buy them. We have hundreds of
customers that do.
If you are a man Zeffie, apologise, otherwise just shut the f**k up unless
you're helping people with technical issues, which you do seem to do very
well.
If the opinion of the group is that he is right, I'll leave. I don't need
the hassle, the aggrevation, and I'll help the loyal following that we have
with their Linux and Cobalt problems on the message boards that I help out
on.
Regards,
Jonathan Michaelson
