Hi Glen,
I recently did the install you are & found a couple little quirks. One thing
... I did mine as a DSO because as far as I'm concerned PHP4 is still in
beta & I wanted to retain PHP3 as the compiled mod in Apache.
If you are doing it that way, or would like to, you can find a GREAT step by
step installation guide at
http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/00/44/index4a_page2.html
However, I ran into the same issue you did as well as a couple more. Here's
what I did to get it in & working great...
my header files were located in /usr/include/mysql but no matter what I did
it would not pick them up. I found an obscure posting in the a mail list
archive (forget which one ... sorry) that mentioned they had to
use --with-mysql=/usr
This worked for me & everything appeared to go fine until I restarted apache
when I discovered it couldn't locate the libphp4.so file. I tried the
directions for modifying /etc/ld.so.conf & running ldconfig ... neither file
existed.
I looked at the httpd.conf file & noticed where it was looking for the file
libphp4.so ... again the path/file didn't exist. So while I was in there I
looked at the details of the php3 install noticing that the .so file for
php3 was located in /usr/libexec/apache.
Well I figured I would take a gamble (nothing to lose ... it didn't work as
is) ... I found libphp4.so in the modules directory under my installation
directory so I copied it to /usr/libexec/apache and modified the path in
httpd.conf accordingly restarted apache and it worked great!!!!
I hope this helps!!!
Have a Great Day,
Mike

Subject: [cobalt-users] [RaQ2] PHP 4 installation problem - path to
MySQL?
Hi all,
I've hit a bit of a snag with an installation of PHP4.0.4 on our RaQ2. I
am trying to configure the installation so it uses MySQL with the following
option:
--with-mysql=/path/to/mysql
However, the configure script always fails with "Cannot find header files
under.[path]". I have tried using the path to the MySQL binary
(/usr/bin/mysql) and the path to the header files (/usr/include/mysql/)
but both fail with the same result.
I had previously installed MySQL (3.22.21) from the RPM on the Cobalt site.
If anyone can provide help on this issue, I would be very grateful.
Regards,
Glen
