The CST6CDT isn't so much a time setting as it is a pointer to the
zoneinfo file that is responsible for Central Time. Look at
/usr/share/zoneinfo/CST6CDT - you'll need to do a zdump on it to see the
contents.
Also, this isn't a problem with semantics - it is a technical problem. It
is a problem with the box reporting the right time, date, year, timezone,
but mail sent through the box is being tagged with timezones that don't
exist.

I think what he's saying is: you're putting
"CST6CDT"
Which looks like
CentralStandardTime6CentralDaylightTime
Which cancels itself out, or makes you think - well which is it? Standard or
Daylight?
If the CDT doesn't stand for CentralDaylightTime, then a quick note on what
it *does* stand for might help. :)
Here on the coast we do both EST and EDT, depending on what part of the year
it is. (Personally, it annoys the hell outta me!)
