RE: [cobalt-users] I got scammed by a RaQ dealer - HELP!

Check out another dedicated hosting provider that doesn't require a
contract. www.rapidhosts.com is one I know of that does not require
contracts. Also, make sure they have a decent connection themselves.. I've
seen to many places sell 10 meg dedicated internet links off of their 3 t1's
(4.5 megs).. so, you have to always look out for overselling. The best way
to by BW is by the gig.. because a provider will let you have as much as you
need since they are going to bill you far it. The next best option is to buy
a dedicated pipe of BW.. but, you have to buy more than you need in order to
support your customers during peak time. All hosts give 10 or 100 meg
ethernet connections to their network (not much choice there, unless they
wanna make you spring for a gigabit card ;) ). But, you have a portrate
limit.. for $250 a month you weren't getting much of a port speed.

As far as getting out of your contract.. I'm sure a strongly worded email to
their sales department, with the demand to know the local Better Business
Burea number for their area would help you in getting out of your contract..
as for as your pre-payment.. I wouldn't hold my breath on getting that back.

One good rule of thumb is to test a company before you put down that amount
of cash.. any reputable hosting company will let you go monthly esp for the
1st few months to test them out, then let you pre-pay for their discounted
rates after you are satisfied with their services.

They always say you get what you pay for.. when picking a host.. esp for
co-location or dedicated servers.. it pays to know what exactly it is you
are paying for.

Subject: [cobalt-users] I got scammed by a RaQ dealer - HELP!

I purchased a $250/month dedicated RaQ4i from globalinternet.net. I
e-mailed and asked about what kind of connection I would have. The
exact response was "We would give you a 10Mbps port on our switch. If
you need 100Mbps, I'm sure we can work it out" giving me the impression
they could handle 100mbit if necessary. After signing up I find out
they're running on a 512k line to host their colo as well as their own
web hosting services. I'm pulling 3.5k a sec average off my machine
during prime time (up to about 12k/sec daytime).

I had 7 people from various places pull an average of 4k a sec last
night. This can't be legal. I could run it off an AOL dialup account
and achieve higher speeds. What can I do? I'm stuck in a 12 month
contract (like all colo providers make you do) and prepaid 6 months.

On the plus side I have unlimited bandwidth. heh *smirk*
I just got an e-mail from them claiming they're upping to a T1. ooo boy
now I can get 7k a second at night.
help?
