Try this path to the .htpasswd file in your .htaccess file ...

/home/sites/site16/web/signup/info/htpasswd

I'm sure this question has been asked before, so I apologise for being yet
another person to ask... but the solutions I found in the archives so far
haven't fixed the problem. :(

I'm trying to password protect a directory on my RaQ4i. However I am still
able to access the directory in question without being challenged by Apache
in any way.

I changed the /usr/httpd/conf/access.conf file to fix the bug on standard
RaQ4i setups. - No effect.

The .htaccess file permissions are:
-rwxr-xr-x   1 niccicam site16        170 Dec 10 17:26 .htaccess
located in:
/home/sites/site16/web/members

The contents of the .htaccess file are:
# Access file
order allow,deny
allow from all
require valid-user
Authname Members
Authtype Basic
AuthUserFile /home/sites/www.niccicam.com/web/signup/info/htpasswd

I have tried using the htpasswd file in different locations, and with and
without a prefixing . in it's name. I have also tried deleting the password
file and recreating it to see if it was bad contents. - No effect.

I've tried changing the contents of the .htaccess file to that which the
Cobalt support page suggests. - No effect.

I've tried changing the contents of the .htaccess file to that which DOES
WORK on my BSDi server provided by VServers.com. - No effect.

I really am getting quite desperate as I'm in the process of moving this
website in question from my old VServers.com server to this cobalt machine,
and I have a non-functional page in effect. :(

If anybody can offer any help or suggestions I would be eternally grateful.
