[cobalt-users] Need Help Determining Qube2 Modem Connection Speed

We are using a Qube2 in conjunction with an external 3Com U.S. Robotics
56K/14.4K V90 modem, attached to the serial port, to connect with our
ISP. We have modified the port speed setting in the diald.conf file from
115,200 KBPS to 57,600, hoping that would help alleviate the extreme
sluggishness of our connection - to no avail unfortunately.

We used to use Internet sharing software (Virtual Motion Internet
LanBridge), which was actually faster at times (though much less
reliable) that our Qube, so we are at a loss to explain the
sluggishness. In particular, we would like to know how to monitor the
connection speed between the Qube and our ISP when we're connected (are
there commands we can issue from a telnet session that will do that for
us?), and ideally we would like to be able to measure the throughput
(KBPS) of that connection to make sure that at least part of the problem
isn't due to local LAN traffic.

Is there anyone out there that can help us?

Thanks!

David
