RE: [cobalt-users] What cpu is in a cobalt raq4 - screaming lawsuits

I have officially requested data and a contact response from Cobalt Networks
using my MAC address to verify the server that I am under contract agreement
with Cobalt Racks; to verify what this server was built and sold as. From
what I understand this is a violation of Cobalt Networks True Blue Partners
to do such a modification to the RaQ3 and maintain it's existence of being a
RaQ4.

I believe you are missing the point.

There is no value or savings in taking a cpu out of an RAQ4 and replacing it
w/ a slower one. In truth, the cost is only about $20 difference and then a
company would be stuck w/ a bunch of cpus!

The value is in taking an RAQ3, the bottom of the line w/ one ethernet
port - runs about $1,000 retail, loading the RAQ4 OS, not changing the CPU
and adding memory and a slightly larger harddrive. Savings would be about
$1,000 per unit if a company did this.

As far as stating the CPU on their site, this is not necessary, as the
specifications of the model are determined by Cobalt. If Cobalt makes all
RAQ4s w/ a 450mhz processor and two ethernets, anything less is misleading.
Also, if a company purchased a RAQ3 and modified it to an RAQ4, it would
simply be a modified RAQ3, as the designation of what type of unit it is is
also set by cobalt. An RAQ4 is a model designation, this is different from
saying pentium class server, or cobalt server, when you state the specific
model, you are required to provide the specific model.
