Subject: [cobalt-users] Can't get domain to let go of IP
I have been at this for 3 hours now, if anyone can help I'd be eternally
grateful. At this point I'm ready to just email a stick of dynamite to my
wonderful RaQ4.
I had 3 domains to add to the machine, each with their own IP.
I had 2 domains that are currently (empty) virtual domains that needed to
move to their own IP.
I screwed up. I tried adding the new ones and fixing the virtual ones in the
Site Settings at the same time.
Then I went over to the control panel and tried adding the new ones and
fixing the virtual ones at the same time.
I think that was mistake number one. I'm never doing more than one site at a
time from now on.
Mistake number two was that I accidentally gave the same IP addy to 2 of the
sites.
Well, I realized this and tried fixing it. No go. Tried taking them out of
the DNS all together. Nope. Tried ripping them out of the Site server *and*
the DNS server at the same time. Nope. Tried restarting httpd. Nope. Tried
restarting DNS. Nope. Rebooted the entire frigging machine. NOPE!
These two domains STILL point at the same IP address, even though they
aren't even on the machine anymore!@!!
When I type the domain www.juliejamison.com into my browser - either IE or
Netscape - it tries to go to 208.155.72.19.
When I type the domain www.bardbrain.com into my browser - either IE or
Netscape - it tries to go to 208.155.72.19.
I've closed my browsers. I've rebooted my machine. I've rebooted my Linksys
Cable/DSL Router even though that won't do anything.
The sites aren't on the machine anymore. The IP is sitting empty at the
moment. (If anyone takes advantage of me saying this on the list I'll kill
you - I'm that cranked at this point!)
I've tried putting the sites back in on different IP addies. No go, I'm
still getting directed to 208.155.72.19.
If anyone can help me before I throw my back out throwing my monitor and
machine out of the window, I would REALLY appreciate it.
Carrie - who hasn't been this PO'd in weeks
