I have another question about the Front Page Extansions for the RAQ4r, whenever I try to access http://domain.com/USERS/USERNAME it doesn't work, it says that the URL was not found, why? Does it have anything to do with the Front Page Extansions? Does anyone here knows how to fix this problem? I'll be waiting for an answer.... Anyways, thank you for helping me! Thanks, Rafael Azevedo
I had the same question with regards to the Qube2. The only thing I could figure out is that FrontPage considers /users/username to be a subweb and as such won't post to a subweb directory. Naturally, I looked in the knowledgebase and searched the archives and there was very little there other than directions on how to create a subweb ("WHICH TURNS YOUR WARRANTY TO STONE"). Meanwhile, I called Cobalt and somebody somewhat sarcastically informed me that if I wanted to post to /users/username I could always post using ftp. True of course, but only if you use an ftp client other than the one associated with Frontpage. The Frontpage/Web Publishing ftp thingamabob yields the same problem. WS-FTP works fine however. Being obstinate and being prior to the new Berlin Wall called Cobalt support I called back and again tried to ascertain why the "ADVERTISED FEATURE" of FrontPage extensions on the Qube2 didn't work. Another tech fellow who was less sarcastic but still pretty much unhelpful referred me to the previously researched subweb creation page, i.e. "./enable.subweb bustedfeature" and ./disable.subweb bustedfeature. Being pretty much tired of talking to anyone from cOBALT, I decided to create a subweb using the afore mentioned commands and "drum roll please" they didn't work. So to make a long story longer, I telnetted on to the poor little Qube2 and looked in the appropriate directories and found that there was more than one version of Frontpage installed with the "./enable" thing being a newer version than the web under which I was creating a subweb. Huh? was all I could think but eventually I decided to go into the admin gooey interface and turn off Frontpage extensions and then turn them back on. Whatever took place under that scenario allowed me to create a subweb. I'm guessing that one of the ubiquitous cobalt updates installed a newer version of Frontpage but was sloppy in doing so. Meanwhile, the /users/username directory was still inaccessible through Frontpage but WS-FTP was working and I was new to using it and found through curiosity that I could now ftp into "ANY" directory on the Qube2. Pretty cool eh? I thought so. So again I searched and read archives and checked the proftp website and found a one line command that restricts users to their home directory. Being a little stunned, perturbed, and DEFINITELY UNHAPPY WITH COBALT SUPPORT, I decided to see what browsing my tiny little toaster with a busted feature called a gui interface for a firewall would do and found that I could browse the /users directory and view every single user on my machine. Instead of calling Cobalt I sent them some email and was told I was outside the thirty day "free support period" but they would be willing to give me a ONE TIME FIX. I decided to save the free fix for a rainy day and dropped an empty index.html page into the users directory as a quick fix and because --> hell i bought the damn machine because I'm busy and believed the advertising that I wouldn't have to know everything to run a little business server. YEAH RIGHT! Besides, it took over thirty days after I bought the insecure carelessly put together piece of crap before my dsl line with PacBell was even set up. Cobalt support reminds me of Catch-22 or the snake biting its tail. You would think they'd understand that every support question helps them debug their product free of charge. I should charge THEM for all of MY TIME that gets wasted figuring out how their updates have broken the Qube2. Anyway, how's that for a rant? Good luck Rafael, my man.
