I should've mentioned this earlier... The application is called
SendSMS. It will be used to send an SMS message directly to an
SMSC ("server"), via TCP/IP. The server that I need to talk to
    uses port 8400.

It just sits there when I run it, eventually timing out...

The guys at the other end mentioned that their firewall is not
registering any hits from my IP... I tried it from my PC, using
another copy of the application, and that worked fine, but thru
    the Cobalt, nothing happens ...

Good.... This one will be pretty funky, since it says "To: Jeff"
but it has the list's email address!
