that is werid I have one with 2000 zones and it never features
run
/usr/sbin/ndc status and see what that says
also tail -f /var/log/messages watch this and restart named and see if 
there are errors
maybe somone is trying to transfer all your zones all the time

also have a look at the named dump file
/usr/sbin/ndc dumpdb and look at that file
it makes it in the /etc/named
