Re: [cobalt-users] Qube 2700WG HDD Upgrade

I have ordered the CD as a contingency; however, my efforts to convince the
Qube to boot continue. One concern that I do have is this: does the Qube
have any known OS or hardware conflicts with ATA-66 drives? The original
Quantum Fireball SE is listed as UDMA/ATA-33; my replacement is ATA-66.
Some OS/HW combinations, such as Solaris-x86 with the newer ATA-100 drives,
will refuse to boot on replicated drives due to the fact that they were
partitioned and formatted using a newer standard and the OS can only read
the drive in compatibility mode. Unfortunately this is difficult to
diagnose on the Qube, as it is headless. Has anyone else used rsync
successfully to replicate a Qube drive that is both ATA-66 and above the
8.4GB boundary? Cobalt's only response to this is:

<snip>
The only upgrade we are able to support is RAM. I would
however suggest that you do not try to upgrade any larger than 30 Gigs due
to
the Linux OS limitation on hard drive size.
</snip>

Alternately, will the Qube recognize an ATA-66 drive natively or in
compatibility mode? Finally, if the boot process does not make it past the
LCD startup message, will the net boot required for the OS Restore CD
actually work? As always, any insight is appreciated.

Bryan
