Looks as if I'll have to reply to this one myself...

I uninstalled 1.3, and then installed version 1.2. Now everything works
splendid.

I'll (hastily) conclude that the 1.3pre1 version of the POP-before-SMTP
package is not compatible with the Raq3.

And yeah, sorry for asking before trying :-)
