As soon as someone got through to 3Com support and told them it said
help, they passed him directly to the RMA department (no questions
asked). Fastest RMA we've ever had.

As long as you don't add a sound card and have them start singing! :-)
I've got a TiVo (http://www.tivo.com/), and the front of the Phillips
version has a big round black plastic cover over the IR receiver in the
middle. Given how the TiVo "learns" what you like to watch, I thought
about replacing the cover with a glowing red one. :-)
