Raul,
Sorry to take so long to try to help! I saw your private message as well,
but since you've already posted to the list let's try to take care of things
here.
First, please verify that you've typed in all paths properly. Just last
year, I setup an FTP client with a typo in the path, and then of course
nothing worked properly.
Second, try connecting to your server as root (you *are* using SSH to avoid
sending passwords openly, right?) and starting at the root directory. Then,
use your FTP client to go into the directory you want, step by step. Go from
the root directory to /home, from there to /home/sites, etc. See if this
works.
Third, telnet into the box and check the permissions on those directories.
It strikes me that the HTML directories you mention are precisely those that
should be world-readable, so I can't think of easy answers as to what the
problem could be. But also check who the owner of those directories and
files is, and what their permissions are, and which user you are connecting
as.
Let us know if you get your problem fixed. Alternately, post some more
detail or information that would help to diagnose your problem.
