If the patch which should be applied is a Security patch...

You should consider implementing it ASAP. Because in the meanwhile
you are vulnerable to attacks...

BUT, the experience shows that some patch released by Cobalt can
be quite bad... So applying a patch before any feedback from other
customers may be not a good idea.

Anyway you have to choose between a (maybe low) risk to be compromised
and only you are responsible and a risk of breaking something
on the cobalt. Which should normally NOT happen if the patch
are correctly tested... (are they ????). But I think that you can
charge Cobalt for problems resulting of a unsuccessful patching.

Especially if it's a security patch. If cobalt release it as a final
version, you should have the complete permission to patch your
cobalt. Maybe Cobalt should think of a publicaly annonced beta testing...
