Re: [cobalt-users] Root access from IHP

It really depends on what your ISP's policies on the subject. It is not unusual for ISP's that sell dedicated servers (ones that you did not buy outright) to place a user on the cobalt in order to do maintainence, in fact, it is quite common. If you are co-locating the cobalt (you own the server, your just renting rack space), I would say that it is probably not appropriate (But again, you should refer to your contract). As long as your the ONLY one doing maintainence on your RaQ, and don't have that as part of the deal, I would say that you are the only one that should have administrative privledges. IMHO

This is really a policy question I guess. We just realized (only took a couple of months) thatthe SysAdmin from the company which we colocate our server had set himself up a root access. This was done without telling us. He has, from the logs, being going into our server at least a couple of times per month since we had the server with them.
