[cobalt-users] Email problems

Hello,

I recently purchased a raq 4r, and I'd like to state that I have absolutely
no experience administering a server, let alone a raq server. But, I have
been trying to learn as much as possible from the raq 4r manual.

I followed the steps that the manual gives you for setting up virtual sites
and user. But I was having major problem with email accounts. And once I
would get a user's email to work, I could not get the email aliases to work.

Anyhow, I've seemed to come up with a way of setting everything up that
makes it all work. PLease review the steps I am taking, and if possible,
tell me if I am taking the right procedures. Comments or suggestions on how
to improve the way I am setting things up are welcome. I am just a bit
confused because the steps I am taking are not exactly what the manual tells
me to do. So I am wondering if there is some kind of software problem with
the server.

I start of by creating a virtual site (I will use domain.com and 10.10.10.1
for the Ip for the example)

I go to Add virtual site: and enter the following settings::

1. IP: 10.10.10.1
2. HOst Name: www
3. Domain Name: domain.com
4. Web Server Aliase: domain.com
5. Email Server Aliase: domain.com

At this point I go into the DNS Server and add an (A) record domain.com ->
10.10.10.1 with reverse record generation checked. Then the same for
www.domain.com -> 10.10.10.1 without reverse record generation. I then add
an MX record with no host name, domain name as domain.com. and the mail
server name as www.domain.com

Now, it was my understanding that at this point, everything should work ok.
But, account aliases will not work unless I go into the Email Server
Parameters and put www.domain.com intoHost/DOmain Aliases. Why is that?
The manual doesnt talk about that. And another thing I noticed is that
sometime the domains I enter in there will disappera and I have to reenter
them.

Once again, any comments or suggestions will help me out a lot, and if you
are very good with all this stuff maybee even a full description of the
whole process I should be taking along with a description of what each
setting accomplishes would be nice too.

im glad I got my mail working ok now, but I am still confused. Is the way I
set them up, the way everyone is setting their virtual sites up?

Thank you for your time.
