You don't need to defragment a Linux ext2fs filesystem. It is designed
to resist significant fragmentation and performs well even if you do
manage to fragment it seriously somehow. As for error checking a
filesystem, Linux will do that automatically at boot time as it is
needed (if the system wasn't shut down cleanly, if it has been 6 months
since it was last checked, if it has been 30 boots since it was last
checked, or if the kernel detected a serious error in the filesystem).
