I expect majordomo to be around for a long time to come.

I only looked at mjd2 once, and when I did, I discovered that it took a
lot more machine resources, and system for system, runs more slowly.
While those issues may have been fixed, I want to point out that while
in a single-user (though multitasking) operating system like Windows you
can fix a resource-hogging program by adding more resources, it's a lot
harder in a multi-user system, since each user needs the resources.

So... I did NOT choose to run mjd2 as of yet. Maybe when it's finally
"done" and blessed <smile>... who knows. I'll certainly try it again
then.

According to the official majorcool website, the author has stopped
working on majorcool for majordomo v1 so he can concentrate of majorcool
for v2. As far as how long that'll take, you'll have to ask him.

More friendly than majorcool? Or do you mean an interface from the
majordomo developers? Personally, I don't expect to see an interface at
all from the majordomo team; there's no reason for them to develop
something that already exists.

And as for me, I prefer command-lines and config files, myself <smile>.

Certainly I don't like that there are so many different places to go to
set up a list; I'd much prefer one place. That place could easily be a
script, though <smile, again>. When we install majordomo (1.4.5, btw)
on a system we supply simple cook-book style instructions, sample files,
and sample /etc/aliases.majord and /etc/virtusertable entries.

While so-called "easier-to-use" list-programs (including one we sell for
us$2,300 for WinNT and Win2K systems) will continue to slowly gain
market-share, majordomo will always do the job for those of us who don't
mind implementing it. While I don't think it'll gain marketshare, I
don't think it'll lose much, either.

Of course Red Hat and other Linux distributors could start packing other
list-managers instead of or in addition to majordomo, and that could
skew the numbers.

A <smile> is a smile <smile>.

I <smile> a lot. I also <grin>. And even <wry grin>. And a few other
things as well. I spent my early childhood and a lot of later years in
New York City, where we learn to speak with our whole body <LOL>.
