I'm not sure what the other way they have is, but I believe there is some kind of access via the MAC address.
There is no way for anyone, Cobalt employee or not, to access your server without having a password given to them. There is *no* backdoor access, especially via MAC address.
I won't even pretend to know the details of your particular situation. What I always tell my customers is "always follow prudent security measures and change your password when a technician has completed their work in your system. That way they cannot access the server again without your knowledge." And I send them a reminder email when I have completed working on their system to do just that.
