I know I'm over looking something here.. so I need some extra brains and
input.
I just moved my last domain to the raq earlier this week.
idonails.com
Interliant has had the zone files and other records in their files. We
opted at first to keep it that way since the company has its own mail
server and all was working as it was supposed to. The zone file looks like so:
$ORIGIN com.
idonails IN SOA ns.clever.net. root.clever.net. ( 19990331 603 360
86400 3600 )
IN A 209.196.50.72
IN NS ns.clever.net.
IN NS ns2.clever.net.
IN MX 100 mail.idonails.com.
$ORIGIN idonails.com.
smtp IN A 208.236.2.10
www IN A 209.196.50.72
ns IN A 206.31.72.1
ns2 IN A 206.31.73.1
ftp IN A 209.196.50.72
mail IN A 208.236.2.10
oldmail IN A 209.4.69.82
There is no mailertable entry in Interliants records so that any and all
mail, whether it coming in from the outside or generated internally on the
server will go directly to the companies mail server (mail.idonails.com)
When I moved to domain earlier this week, Interliants head Cobalt tech
Jason (a participant here) suggested we simply change the pointer in
Interliants records to point the www to the new IP (209.196.44.202). We did
so and the site propagated in less than 2 hours.
Mail coming in from the outside does continue to be sent to the
mail.idonails.com server like it had been. But mail generated on the server
(CGI script) or coming thru the server (me sending to him using
beautytech.com as the SMTP) refuses to leave the box and ends up in the
user's box.
We have tried changing all sorts of things with no success here:
removing the catchall from the user - all mail bounces to me as admin
replace catchall mail stays local in the user's box
changed DNS over to the cobalt - no change
added MX record:
idonails.com ->very high priority -> mail.idonails.com
no change
added record
mail.idonails.com -> 208.236.2.10 (mail server IP)
no change
I need some input, suggestions, ideas..
I've been off list for a while.. hope I haven't missed anything good.. last
time I left the list one of you wonder boys posted the resolve for that
nasty SSL DNS error I was having and I almost missed it! I have implemented
the change and all is wonderful now!
Thanks..
