Yup, pretty much. Every now and then somebody wants to set up an IRC
channel (or whatever you call them) for reasons that quite escape 98%
of us, and there have been some well-meant attempts to set up Web-based
bulletin boards. However it seems that the majority of people only want
to monitor and contribute to one resource, and this is it.
By the way, Propfast, some people are put off by "screen names" or
pseudonyms. (I'm not fussed - I regularly post to Usenet under a nom
de plume). So you may wish to consider signing off with a real name
to get the most from this list. In fact you may wish to consider
ditching AOL, but that's another matter.
(I know of one situation where a bulletin board works well, and that's
a professional pilot's forum. It enables them to talk about their
jobs anonymously, and the semi-moderated nature of it is a Good Thing.)
