The learning curve continues. I do read through the archives a bit
before spouting off, btw. :)
I am setting up new users with email with something like
"kd@xxxxxxxxxx", and an alias like "kathy", with a forward to
"kd@xxxxxxxxxxxxx"; and when I try to send a message to
"kathy@xxxxxxxxxx" it bounces back undeliverable tells me user not
known.
I am setting up email via the DNS as recommended throughout the archives
as:
A rec = domain --> IP
A rec = www.domain --> IP
PTR = IP --> domain
PTR = IP --> www.domain
A rec = mail.domain.com
MX = domain.com --> mail.domain.com
when setting up virtual site, put in email alias of "mail.domain.com"
I first tried this using the method in the manual (ahem), which said to
actually do
the
MC = domain.com --> www.domain.com
without the A rec
didn't work.
Question is this: does an alias such as "kathy" for username "kd" NOT
forward to an external domain, or is there some switch or something I'm
missing.
It would seem logical that "kathy" would just be an alias of "kd" and
dump stuff the same place. But, no.
Also, in my control panel/email server settings, the DNS automatically
dumps in the www.domain.com, and I add manually the domain.com without
the host (www).
Dazed and confused.
