[cobalt-users] re: hidden .htaccess files [RAQ4] - Fri.

<lol>
Thanks, Stew--
missing the point on the ftp clients (maybe you're not.... I assume you
want me to go buy a Pentium IV running NT just to be able to FTP). They
(my pesky ftp apps) have served me well for many years and have worked
on every other machine without issue, and NetFinder specifically has a
menu for making "." files visible. However, the server config is where
my problem lies, not the client ftp software. Yeah, I can see them just
fine via Telnet.

But.... Your suggestion here:
Or, for your actual desired effect...
Edit /etc/proftpd.conf and add this line:
            LsDefaultOptions "-a"

may be the ticket! I will try this out, and if it works, you get the
happy sock puppet award of the week! Thank you for getting that by not
wanting them to be visible to the public was intended to mean I didn't
want a fix that would just kill ALL permissions to make things visible,
but a more elegant solution such as the one you've suggested for the
proftpf.conf file.

Now.... I go to hack my file! :)

OK. Your ftp clients suck. Use a text based browser on NT or
Linux.
Then use this command to list directory contents:
    $> dir -a
    *or*
    $> ls -a

Then you will see all files.

Or, for your actual desired effect...
Edit /etc/proftpd.conf and add this line:
LsDefaultOptions "-a"

Then your dot files will show up in a GUI client. Happy?
I assume you mean that you don't want dot files "visible to the
public".....
on your webserver. That is a matter of file permissions. More info at
www.proftpd.net.
