Subject: [cobalt-users] Off-topic : URL Redirection system for Linux
Date: Tue, 26 Sep 2000 18:06:02 +0100
We have a couple of Cobalt RAQs doing hosting for the usual web sites and
e-mail. The slightly annoying limitation I find is that in the UK most of
our customers will try and buy both the .com and .co.uk version of a domain
name.
The issue with the RAQ is that you can only assign one host/domain name
against a site, unlike M$ IIS4 where I could just keep on adding domain
names to a virtual site via the Porperties.
I know that you can edit the http.conf files and so on, but the 'will not
be
supported' disclaimers in place for any manual configuration always puts me
off.
Does anyone know of a set of scripts that I can run on a separate Linux box
which can house all the other customer domains in a database/flat file, and
redirect requests onto the RAQ-based URL. I have seen so many other scripts
which work with subdomains of a nominated domain, like the 'come.to' model,
but that is not what I want.
