Mike,

  Anything you want to search for while logged in as root can be done with 
this command:

Go to the root directory (by typing in  cd / )
Then type   find -name "what you are looking for" -print

In this case      find -name "*.forward" -print

and it should show you what it finds on the machine with their paths.
