I've thought about the very same thing in the past, but I've never run
across a problem only having one nameserver in the SOA.

If you do decide, however, to add your secondary nameserver to each zone
file, you don't need to worry about creating slave records since both
"nameservers" are running off the same daemon.  You really only need to have
slave records when the nameservers are located on different servers.  It
automates replication of the zone files.

In regards to your browser errors: As long as both the IP addresses for your
authoritative nameservers are active, you shouldn't be getting any errors.

Sorry, I don't know of a FAQ that explains this.  I would recommend
O'Reilly's book on "DNS & BIND" if you would like to learn more.
