Apparently, according to posters to news:news.admin.net-abuse.email, AOL has
instituted a method of intercepting any port 25 SMTP traffic and routing it
through their own SMTP servers, regardless of what SMTP server you have set
in your mail client.
I don't have an AOL dialup to test this. If it's true, it may eliminate the
main reason why many people wish to install POP b4 SMTP. That is, to
accommodate the millions of potential customers from AOL that didn't have
SMTP access and want to use their Outlook Express or Netscape mail program
or others.
