- Subject: [cobalt-users] Mail Loops Back Via Unknown Relay

Hello, we looked at the suggested /var/log/maillog,
/var/spool/mail, and tail -f /var/log/maillog. We
have a mysterious relaying going on though there is no
relaying choosen in the GUI Admin.
When our MX record is the following:
www in mx 30 domain.com.
We get this error when sending via telnet mail -v:
username....Connecting to www.domain.com. via relay...
/*COMMENT: This is what we do not understand */
220 www.domain.com ESMTP mailer ready at Thu, 14 Sep
2000 16:41:43 -700 (PDT)
>>>EHLO www.domain.com
250-8BITMIME
250-SIZE 512000
250-DSN
250-ONEX
250-ETRN
250-XUSR
250 HELP
www.domain.com. config error: mail loops back to me
(MX problem?)
>>>QUIT
221 www.domain.com closing connection
username...Local configuration error
Then when we change our MX record to the following:
domain.com. in mx 30 www.domain.com
We get the following error via telnet mail -v
username:
MX list for www.domain.com points back to
www.domain.com
username...Local conifguration error
root...aliased to admin
/root/dead.letter....Saved messsage in
/root/dead.letter
When look at the /var/log/maillog we have:
Sep 14 www sendmail [1662]: VAB01575: VAA01662:return
to sender: Local configuraiton error
Sep 14 12:39:22 www sendmail [1663]: NOQUEUE: Null
connection from www.domain.com [xxx.xxx.x.xxx]
Sep 14 12:39:22 www sendmail [1662] VAA011662:
to=admin, delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00,
mailer=relay,
/*COMMENT: We do not know why there is relay here */
relay=www.domain.com., stat=Local configuration error
Sep 14 12:39:22 www sendmail [1662]: VAB01575: Saved
message in /usr/tmp/dead.letter.
This machine used to be a secondary DNS and Secondary
Mail Server on a different IP. It is now a Primary
DNS and Primary Mail Server. The DNS resolution works
fine and the mail is sent; for some reason it wants to
relay, mabye to the Old Primary server. We found
sec.domain.com records in the /etc/named folder that
might have been remanants from when it was a Secondary
Name Server since in the sec.domain.com. file there
was a refference to the Old Primary DNS server's IP,
which this Qube2 now has. We deleted the
sec.domain.com files and still have the same errors.
Your help is greatly appreciated, since manufactuer
support is tied up to next week.
