Grab BW-Whois from http://www.bw.org/
It even has a Web-based interface if you so choose to install/configure it.
Oh, forgot the most important part: It will automatically search out the
proper registrar for a domain and report the registrant information, not
just the bland stats (domain name, registrar, name servers info, etc.)
that's now produced with the old whois.
