[cobalt-users] problems with .rpm files

I just bought a cobalt RAQ-3 and I tried to install mysql using an .rpm file
and I get the following error... can anybody tell me why I'm getting this?
(I have the packages.rpm in the right directory)
What do i need to install?

failed to open //var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm
error: cannot open //var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm
 
I know the question may be a little simple but I'm newbie at this. Can
anybody tell me a good place at the Web to learn Linux Administration?...
