[cobalt-users] Qube2 and NASRaQ with common users but no PDC

Hi Guys,

The NASRaQ manual talks about using either local authentication or a PDC.
Further it says it "syncs" user/group info every 15 minutes so I gather that
its not actually using the PDC for dynamic authentication, its loading
user/group details from the PDC and then updating local files.

So in the absence of a PDC in a small office which currently runs a Qube2 I
think I have two possible options if I want to integrate a NASRaQ ...

1) As recent releases of SAMBA are able to do the PDC thing ... update the
version of SAMBA presently installed on the Qube2 so it can appear to the
NASRaQ as a PDC.

2) Modify the "sync" script to copy user/group detail directly from the
Qube2.

IMHO option 2. is probably "safer" but as I don't have a NASRaQ I can't
actually try it.

Does anyone know whether changing the "sync" script to copy user/group info
from a Qube2 via ftp then update local files is reasonable/feasible?

Cheers, Malcolm
