This is okay in some cases, but it really hasn't got any advantages
over the mailinglist model (except if you have a bad mailclient, and a
better newsclient).

It still got the disadvantages the mailinglist has, as it uses that as
the transport medium.

An email client like Gnus does a lot of things to mailinglists, that
make them look like a newsgroup (i.e. seperate folder, threading,
scoring, redirecting answers to the right address, etc.)
