So you can meter the traffic on each port.
Many co-location facilities charge by the bandwidth, and even if they don't
you may want to charge your clients based on the bandwidth that they use.
So by using MRTG you are able to meter and charge for bandwidth based on the
server/port.
There are other monitoring advantages, but metering is probably the biggest.
