RE: [cobalt-users] just telnet in ? ...unix shell commands

I would suggest you pick up a Linux book at Amazon or Borders. I use the Red
Hat Linux Bible by Christopher Negus which covers Red Hat Linux 6.1. Telnet
is a network command not a linux command. You may want to take a beginners
course in networking something along the lines of Fundamentals of Networking
which you can take at any Community College. The members of this list have
to assume that people seeking help have some knowledge computers,
networking, OS, etc.

Most of the questions and threads on this list have nothing to do with the
"dedicated raq 3 world" but with issues of specific software for linux, DNS,
networking, etc. This list is a helping tool not a teaching tool. There are
other places where you can go to get an education in running a web/email
server.

This list covers a vast amount of material. I would suggest to start
following the different threads and you will learn a great deal. if you do
not understand something post a question to that thread. The people o this
list can be very helpful.

Also, there are several people on the list that you can contact off-list for
more specific help. I have found 3 that I generally email and one that I
have given access to my servers to check the configuration.

Subject: [cobalt-users] just telnet in ? ...unix shell commands

in this forum, i have read on many occasions just
telnet in and su- to root and you can edit your this
and that...

being new to the dedicated cobalt raq 3 world...

i , and many others it would appear in this group,
have no idea what is being talked about...

i have combed the web and cobalt newsgroups for a week
now and still have no idea on how to edit any server
file...

or for that matter, to even simply remove a
directory...

can anybody please refer me to some sort of , in
laypersons terms, on line unix telnet / shell command
how to and tutorial ...

or perhaps recomend a actual book for reference...

many thanks...
