Though I've since learned (thanks) that I can do that on a per-newsgroup
basis using Netscape, I didn't before.

Having lots of disk space, I continually store entire lists for months
on-end in Netscape.  Netscape's search is quite fast, and Netscape can
handle large archive lists well.  When the lists get to about 15,000
messages, I break them off into archive (local) mailbox slots, but I
still keep them that way.

For me, searching that way is very fast.
