Hello,

maybe I have the point. I had to change the site3 file manually while
my Telnet client crashed and as I reconnected, emacs had done an
autosave/autorestore.

The file #site3# exists in the directory and I think it is causing the
problem. Shall I delete it? If yes, what's the exact Unix command to
do this?

Curious: even as root, I cannot "less #site3#"; the system keeps
telling me that I have to enter a filename. Does less have problems
with characters like #?
