[cobalt-users] RaQ3 - Allowing CGI to write below the web root

Hi,
I have a customer who has a cgi managed datafile. To get better security we
want to locate the file below the web root for his virtual site. That is,
in the /home/sites/www.hisdomain.com/ directory where the "web" directory
also lives and his site's ftp root also is.
When I try this the cgi is not able to write to anything in this directory
below the "web" directory. It is, however, able to read files/directories
here.
I have checked permissions on files/directories and looked at the virtual
host container in httpd.conf for clues. The owner of the directory is the
ftp user account (which is, of course, site admin enabled).
BTW, this is using perl, worked just fine on my former hosting company's
apache/linux server. I really think I've got the directory pointers OK
because as long as the directory and files are above the webroot ("web")
I can write to them fine.
Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, and I'm sure I'm not the first
person using a cobalt RaQ to want to write with a cgi into a directory in
the ftproot below the web root. Suggestions?
Thanks,
-Stephanie Sullivan
