At first, this was a cause of the email server not accepting me at all. I
figured that out and added my home computer's IP...That made it so it
stopped kicking me out of the mail server and would try to send my mail.
But, then I got the recursive email error. Turns out that's probably a
problem with teh fact that the true DNS records for dimar.org, which were
recently updated, haven't propogated out to all the DNS servers yet. The old
record had just 'mail' listed as my mail server, so any mail server trying
to email me would resolve to itself and send the email to itself a million
times...
Once the record updates (it has on a few DNSs), the mail goes through fine,
though.
FYI: For folks having this problem, if you want to see what the DNS records
look like on a particular Name Server, you can use nslookup. For instance,
for me to see what the nameserver at Annex.Com looks like, I type this from
my telnet account.
nslookup -query=MX dimar.org ns1.annex.com
The format is:
nslookup -query=MX <your domain> <the nameserver>
This will have that DNS server send back a nice message telling me what it
thinks my source of authority (ie: official nameserver) for my site is, and
what the mail server is, etc.
You can skip including the -query tag and it'll just tell you what that
other Nameserver thinks your official nameserver is.
