RE: [cobalt-users] StaQWare for RaQ2?

We use StaQware on the RaQ3i's, we do not have any RaQ2's ,but I believe
that the RaQ2 does not have a 2nd Ethernet port. StaQware ware works like
this You plug both boxes eth0 interface into a switch, you then plug a cross
connect into both boxes eth1 port. all content on box1 is pushed to box 2,
while box 2 is not usable unless box1 breaks, then box 2 becomes hot and
box1 is shutdown. StaQware is a fail over feature not a load balance.

We have other sites running on RaQ3is that we use rsync for I will give a
brief description:

we have ftp1 ftp2 ftp3 we have an rsync server daemon running on ftp1, which
is bound to eth1 not 0 we then have scripts on ftp2 and 3 that run on cron
and connect to ftp1 to sync the data. now we can load balance across all
three boxes, we also have a script running on a backside attached backup
server that grabs the data and rolls it to a tape lib.

The setup for the rsync server is very basic, Go to http://rsync.samba.org
and print the html version of the rsync and rsyncd.conf man pages. They
explain in full detail how to set up and connect with rsync.

Hope this info helps.

Subject: [cobalt-users] StaQWare for RaQ2?

Hello,

I have been looking over the product briefs for StaQWare for the
RaQ 3i's and I wondered if anyone on list could supply me with a
similar solution for an identical pair of RaQ 2's? Has anyone
here used StaQWare yet? Can anyone give me pros and more
importantly cons of this type of setup. Unfortunately I need to
find a way to mirror all of the information on the primary RaQ2
to the secondary (backup) RaQ2. I haven't had much luck in
finding a solution that will allow me to do that. In fact, I'd
even be interested in making the secondary an *exact* duplicate
of the primary, ie. same IP address for primary ethernet
interface, etc. So that if the primary one dies I just move it's
ethernet connection to the secondary and it looks like the same
box to the world on the internet.

I have been reviewing backup solutions, because quite frankly the
data on the machines are more important than the machines
themselves, right? If they take a rather physical death, ie.
hard drive goes out, cobalt users need a quick and efficient way
to get all of their customers back on line. A two month
magnoscopic intrusive rebuilding of the data from the drive is
not the way this needs to happen. I'm sure that there are plenty
of other RaQ2 and even RaQ1 owners that have come up with clever
ways to get the data off of one machine and on to another so they
can be back online in a matter of hours, not days.

I've looked into rsync, direct copy via NFS mount, Samba
equivalent copy, BRU from Enhanced Software Technologies, but I
feel that there is a better over all way of doing this. Any help
in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time,
