The 3i has dual ethernet so if you are planning on using one server solely as a MySQL
database server, you should be able to use the RaQ3 for this purpose and connect it
to the 3i using the second ethernet card. I think using a RaQ3 solely as a MySQL
database is a poor choice of hardware, but if that's what you have at your disposal I
would recommend speaking with someone who knows MySQL and the hardware to ensure it
meets your needs given the type of database usage you project and how critical the
data and operation is. You may find you need more RAM, you may find the RaQ3 won't
meet your needs or you may be in good shape. You can do Linux firewalling using
ipchains. I am not an expert on ipchains, though there are some good books out there
and plenty of information in the Cobalt-User archives. Search on "ipchains" and/or
"firewall". Feel free to contact me off-list if you'd like, but spend a few hours
reading through the list archives and reading up on ipchains b/c you may find all the
answers you are looking for.
