I am new at this, so someone with more knowledge should double check what I
had to do with a similar problem, and see if it will solve beutytechs NS
problem.
If interiliant has issued you a block of IP's, they need to make you the
authoritative for your block of addresses, i.e. 209.196.37.201-255, or
whatever #'s they have allotted you.
they need to put in something like this after the SOA record
in their zone file:
37.196.209.in-addr.ARPA. IN NS ns.intereliant.net (or whatever their ns
servers are)
37.196.209.in-addr.ARPA. IN NS ns2.intereliant.net
37.196.209.in-addr.ARPA. IN NS ns3.intereliant.net
or if you are going to do the reverses
37.196.209.in-addr.ARPA. IN NS dns1.beautytech.com
37.196.209.in-addr.ARPA. IN NS dns2.beautytech.com
and then they need to create a separate zone file for that
zone on their servers if they are doing it - it looks like
you already have them set up on your side.
Once they have set you up for reverse DNS on your block of IP's, it should
resolve to your nameservers.

Subject: [cobalt-users] PTR's
Today I got blessing from the gods at AOL to allow me to do some mass
mailing.. which included 2000 AOL addresses.. spoke directly to the
postmaster. (all opt in for the record and almost 40% NFG and duplicates
sad to say)
She agreed to white list my IP after seeing the headers from my initial
mailing which she was included in at her request.
She wrote me after the mailing stating:
I can't see your reverse DNS:
> n 209.196.37.202
Name Server: dtc-ns3-old.ns.aol.com
Address: 205.188.152.13
Trying DNS *** dtc-ns3-old.ns.aol.com can't find 209.196.37.202: Server
failed
She tried using dns1.mircosoft.com also same result.
I tried also with the same results..
My DNS setting for beautytech are set to:
beautytech.com 209.196.37.202
dns1.beautytech.com 209.196.37.202
dns2.beautytech.com 209.196.37.203
www.beautytech.com 209.196.37.202
209.196.37.202/24 dns1.beautytech.com
209.196.37.203/24 dns2.beautytech.com
I called Interliant who suggested I add a PTR of:
209.196.37.202/24 www.beautytech.com
I was told in the past only one PTR per IP.. this goes against that rule..
but I added it because they said I should.
Its been 6+ hours and I'm still getting the same results on the nslookup
I'm open to suggestions here.. if its just wait for propagation.. then I'll
wait :) I'm the queen of no patience this week..
Thanks..
Regards,
