Was this after you tried to clear the mailq by deleting the files in
spool/mailq ?

If so, then I think you only deleted the control files.

As I understand it, each message has 2 files, both ending with the ID
number.
eg     **A16121    if you are going to delete the message from the queue
succesfully, then you need to delete both the files for that message.
