[cobalt-users] Re: Re:dead root password

Actually, I don't think this is the problem, although a very interesting
suggestion. I think the problem has to do with the /etc/group file,
and(or) the /etc/shadow file. I recall that I was making some changes to
permissions to a particular site's directory permissions, and the the
next time I logged in, I noticed that the site-adm group was gone, and
user admin was removed from wheel, root and sys groups.

So, it's one of those Homer moments, when you hit the return key and
immediately get that sick feeling in your stomach. oops.

Does anyone know where can I get an OS install CD and just rebuild the
system to factory delivery defaults? Is there a way to console in and
operate in single user mode, and have root access? Or, are there any
ideas of how I can remedy the situation? I simply need to add admin back
to the wheel, root and sys groups, and create a new root password. But
I've managed to destroy root access to my own machine. Arrghh!

thanks, and no laughing! ;-)
